RM3557   Smoky quartz, Aegirine, Microcline and Albite
SiO₂
  -  4. Óxidos e hidróxidos

In this specimen, we can observe various smoky quartz crystals, with a very uniform colour and exceptional transparence. They are disposed on a feldspar matrix, accompanied by various prismatic aegirine crystals with striated faces and a very intense black color. This specimen belongs from the Jaime Murria collection (Barcelona). 5y371a

RM3546   Aegirine after arfvedsonite
NaFe3+Si2O6

I initially classified this specimen as actinolite, but after some doubts I analysed it using SEM-EDS and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The results indicate that it is an aegirine, probably after arfvedsonite (striated prism...). A very good-sized specimen, with different crystals growing in parallel, shiny, with striated faces, and a clearly visible green colour. Pieces of this quality are almost impossible to obtain today. We will send the analyses to the buyer.

Size: 7.9 x 5.2 x 3.4 cm.
Found in ±2011.
